The Office vs The American Office.
I love The Office, it’s funny, it’s clever and its British. There are those who would write off the American equivalent of The Officewho would slate it because it’s not British, at least as far as I can tell. Yes it is American but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t funny or clever. The context is different and the first season is a word for word rip off but you don’t judge Heath Ledger on 10 Things I hate About You, you judge him on The Dark Knightand you should apply the same logic to the American Office. The characters are brilliantly quirky to the point of being charming and Characters like Dwight far surpass Gareth and on the subject of the characters I found that I actually cared about them. The characters of The Office(U.K.) are, for the most part, utterly detestable and that’s where most of the pleasure comes from. The American Officeon the other hand has characters that you can’t help but love and care about, when they’re sad you want to know why and you share in their joy. The situations faced by the office workers are equally bizarre, if not more so, but they are displayed with a kind of lightheartedness and affection which, at points, is heart warming.
The point I’m trying to make is that The Office (U.S.) is a show that is worth watching, regardless of the fact that it took it’s main idea from a U.K. show (which I have previously blogged about.)
